FDA Issues Cybersecurity Alert on Medtronic MiniMed 600 Series Insulin Pump System

The FDA has issued an alert about a potential cybersecurity risk for Medtronic’s MiniMed 600 series insulin pump system.

The potential issue lies in the communication protocol for the pump, which could lead to unauthorized access, the agency said, adding that this could cause the pump to deliver too much or too little insulin.

The company, which also issued an Urgent Medical Device Correction, said it identified the security vulnerability through internal testing.

The FDA said it is not aware of any adverse events reports related to the cybersecurity vulnerability.
