FDA to Study Prescription Drug Use-Related Software

The FDA’s Office of Prescription Drug Promotion (OPDP) plans to study consumers’ perceptions of prescription drug use-related software.

The study will also look at claims and presentations in prescription drug promotion that focus, either directly or through implication, on a product’s potential to improve adherence to treatment regimens.

It is estimated that only half of all patients with chronic health conditions take their medications as prescribed, the OPDP said, and the study will focus on patients’ non-adherence to their medication regimens.

The OPDP is inviting public comment on the issue by Nov. 22.
