Medtronic’s Hugo Robotic-Assisted Surgery System Gains CE Mark

October 25, 2022

Medtronic’s Hugo robotic-assisted surgery system has gained a CE mark in Europe for use in general surgery.

The system combines wristed instruments and 3D visualization capabilities and has a recording option through a surgical video and analytics platform powered by artificial intelligence.

The minimally invasive robotic-assisted procedures result in fewer complications, allow shorter hospital stays and faster return to normal activities. The system can potentially be used in a wide range of procedures such as cholecystectomy, inguinal hernia repair, gastric bypass and lower anterior resection, the company said.

The Hugo system has also been approved in Canada for use in laparoscopic surgery and in Japan for urologic and gynecologic surgery.
