NICE Gives Conditional Nod to Digital Mental Health Tools

November 8, 2022

The UK’s National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) has conditionally recommended several digital self-guided cognitive behavior therapies (CBT) for coverage by the National Health Service (NHS).

The digital health tools use games, videos and quizzes to help children learn techniques to better understand and manage their symptoms of anxiety and low mood.

Delivered on phones, tablets or computers, the digital health tools are for use with support from a mental health professional.

NICE is recommending BfB Labs’ Lumi Nova for mild to moderate anxiety; SilverCloud’s Space for anxiety, low mood or both anxiety and low mood in teenagers; and Healios’ ThinkNinja CBT Bytesize for children and young people aged 11 years and older with anxiety or low mood and related problems.

The agency is inviting comments on the draft recommendations until Nov. 18.
