Magstim’s Horizon 3.0 Cleared for Obsessive Compulsive and Major Depressive Disorders

January 23, 2023

The FDA has cleared Magstim’s Horizon 3.0, which uses short magnetic pulses to stimulate nerve cells in the brain to treat adults with obsessive compulsive disorder and as adjunct treatment for adults with major depressive disorder.

The noninvasive device targets areas in the brain researchers believe are responsible for emotional judgment and mood regulation. The rapid magnetic pulses pass through the skull and generate an electric current in the brain directly under the treatment coil. The electric currents cause neurons to fire and stimulate surrounding brain cells.

The clearance also permits the device to be used with or without StimGuide+, an FDA cleared 3D navigation system to guide treatment to the correct target. Also cleared is the company’s E-z Cool Coil which keeps the unit cool.
