FDA Approves Zephyrus Aeroject Safety Syringe

The FDA has approved Zephyrus Innovations’ Aeroject 3ml safety syringe which has an internal mechanism that retracts the needle inside the syringe after activation.

When retraction occurs, the needle is “fully contained inside the syringe plunger, preventing reuse of the needle and syringe, as well as providing protection from accidental needlestick injuries during normal handling and disposal,” the company said.

Currently, fewer than 33 percent of safety syringes sold are automatic retracting needles, Zephyrus said.
