Haemonetics Sees Clearance for New Software for Cell Saver Elite System

Haemonetics has received 510(k) clearance from the FDA for its next-generation software for the Cell Saver Elite+ autotransfusion system, which gives hospitals the ability to recover a patient's own blood during surgical procedures and avoid transfusions.

The new software, named Intelligent Control, features more than 50 automation improvements, including a manual mode and enhanced emergency options.

The software enhances the company’s SmartSuction and Latham bowl instruments (which use centrifugal force to separate blood into its components) to “help maximize the recovery of red blood cells,” the company said.
