Accuracy, FDA Approval High in Women’s Expectations for Wearable Devices

March 9, 2023

Sixty-five percent of women surveyed by Movano Health about wearable devices say the FDA’s clearance of a device is the most valuable indicator of the device’s accuracy and reliability.

Of the 1,000 women responding to the survey, 35 percent of the 30- to 75-year age group said they currently own a wearable device and are tracking at least some of its metrics.

“We're hearing a consistent requirement from women that wearables be comfortable and monitor their vitals accurately, and that's best achieved with an FDA cleared, medical device," said Movano CEO John Mastrototaro.

The survey also found that when it comes to lifestyle attitudes and goals, 85 percent of women said they sought to understand their bodies and 75 percent were looking to improve their health. Far fewer women (38 percent) were looking for the next physical challenge or fitness trend (22 percent.)

Movano said it conducted the study as part of its consideration for submitting its Evie Ring — used to track sleep quality and the menstrual cycle — for FDA clearance.
