Q’Apel Medical Walrus Balloon Guide Catheter Gets CE for Acute Ischemic Stroke

Q’Apel Medical’s Walrus balloon guide catheter has received the CE mark for treating patients with acute ischemic stroke.

The Walrus catheter is designed to arrest blood flow during procedures to remove blood clots in the brain. The device facilitates the insertion of an intravascular catheter and acts as conduit for clot retrieval devices.

The device offers improved flow control and access for treating stroke by delivering “proximal support while maintaining distal flexibility,” the company said.

The device previously received FDA clearance in July 2019.
