UK NICE Gives Early Thumbs Up for Digital Mental Health Therapies

May 22, 2023

The UK’s National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) has given an early value assessment approval and issued a guidance for six digital mental health therapies, all of which are eligible for use once they have approvals from the National Health Service of England and a CE or UK Conformity Assessed Mark.

The six digital therapies are Perspectives for body dysmorphic disorder, Beating the Blues and Space from Anxiety for anxiety disorders, iCT and Spring for post-traumatic stress disorder and iCT-SAD for social anxiety disorder.

NICE looked at seven additional therapies but said these therapies “should not be offered on the NHS because there is not enough evidence to recommend them.”

The institute said that additional evidence should be generated on the therapies’ performance including rates of recovery, improvement and deterioration as well as reasons for stopping treatment and patient experience.
