Pfizer Reopens Plant After Tornado Destruction

August 31, 2023

Pfizer announced Monday that it has reopened its Rocky Mount plant and that efforts to restart production are on track for near the end of the year.

The company said that quality laboratories and processes, packaging and inspection operations, supply chain and warehouse are operational.

In regard to the supply chain, Pfizer is releasing any products that may not have been impacted by the tornado and that pass quality assessments. In addition, the company is transferring manufacturing to other sterile injectable sites to accelerate the supply of its products.

A tornado with winds of 150 mph slammed into Pfizer’s enormous drug manufacturing plant in Rock Mount, N.C., on July 19, knocking out the facility that makes 25 percent of the company’s injectable medications. (FDAnews, July 20).
