Study Finds Masimo Pulse Oximetry Accurate for Varying Skin Tones, Low Perfusion

February 14, 2024

A peer-reviewed analysis of data from a previous study of Masimo’s pulse oximetry device shows accurate measurement of oxygen saturation (SpO2) regardless of skin tones or pulse strength.

The analysis of the previous data set — conducted by Masimo staff — reflected accurate SpO2 measurements with Masimo RD SET sensors for Black and White subjects with both low and normal perfusion index (Pi), or pulse strength, the company said, was published Jan. 19 in the Journal of Clinical Monitoring and Computing.

The new analysis focused specifically on whether Masimo SET pulse oximetry accuracy was affected by a subject’s low or normal Pi. No clinically significant difference in accuracy or bias was found, the company said.
