Medical Devices Supply Chain Needs Top Priority, FDA Official Says

Within the supply chain universe, medical technology and its countless components need to stay front and center when competing with other industries, according to the FDA’s lead supply chain official.

Medical technology shortages shouldn’t take a back seat to supply chain issues in larger manufacturing sectors, such as automotive or consumer electronics, Michael Hoffman, acting deputy director of the Office of Product Evaluation and Quality at CDRH said at a workshop on generic drug-device combination products last week.

Hoffman presented the priorities of the agency’s Office of Supply Chain Resilience developed to prevent medical device shortages and ward off supply chain challenges at the workshop.
