The 64-slice CT scanner is a modern marvel — creating vivid pictures of internal organs and blood vessels in less time than older diagnostic imaging machines. At least five Twin Cities hospitals have added the new technology, including Regions Hospital in St. Paul. While existing eight- and 16-slice scanners can diagnose most conditions, more slices means more camera angles and clearer images of cancerous tumors or hardened arteries. If your hospital doesn't have 64 slices, just wait.
