INDIA-U.S. COLLABORATION REVISING VACCINE PLAN

The Indo-U.S. Vaccine Action Program has announced it has decided to develop a revised road map based on priority diseases prevalent in both India and the U.S, including the development of candidate vaccines for rotaviral diarrhoea, malaria, HIV, tuberculosis, cholera, respiratory syncytial virus, Group A Streptococcus and more.

In the U.S., the program is part of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

As part of the effort, Phase I clinical trials of a new rotaviral diarrhoea vaccine strains have been completed in India and the U.S. testing the vaccine in adults, older children and infants, suggesting that the vaccine is safe. Indian drugmaker Bharat Biotech has produced prototype vaccine.
