FDA APPROVES UCB'S INTRAVENOUS KEPPRA FOR EPILEPSY

August 2, 2006

The FDA has approved UCB's Keppra (levetiracetam) injection of 500 mg/5 mL for use as adjunctive therapy in the treatment of partial-onset seizures in adults with epilepsy. The drug is an alternative for patients when oral drug administration is temporarily not feasible. It must be diluted prior to use and administered as a 15-minute intravenous infusion.

The European Commission approved the use of intravenous Keppra for children 4 and older with epilepsy in March.
