TEVA SUBMITS ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION GENERIC TO US FDA

January 11, 2005

According to local reports, leading Israeli drugmaker Teva has submitted a request to the US FDA to produce a generic erectile dysfunction drug. The treatment uses the same active pharmaceutical ingredient as Pfizer's blockbuster Viagra, sildenafil citrate. The move marks Teva's first attempt to market an erectile dysfunction drug, although research-based drugmakers are likely to oppose a US approval. While sales of Viagra have fallen in recent years, US patents on the drug are not due to expire until 2012.
