Nigeria Blacklists 12 Asian Counterfeit Drug Producer Firms

March 25, 2005

Nigeria has blacklisted a dozen foreign companies that officials in Lagos have accused of dumping fake and counterfeit drugs into the country.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) released the list of the banned firms earlier this week, according to allAfrica.com.

The companies include Kamala Overseas Bombay, Vardhman Export A-188 TTC, Unibids Lab, Shreechem Pharmaceuticals Pvt, Merit Organics Lt, Milan Laboratories, Mission Pharmaceutical, Henkish Chemical Pvt, Intermed 4GK, Wardex Pharm Pvt, Dew Health care Pvt, and Pilva Pakistan (Pvt).

The government, through the NAFDAC, has barred Nigerian importers from bringing into the country any product from these companies. The public is also advised not to purchase any drug bearing the name of any of these companies. Wherever such products are found, the government asks that a report of the address of the pharmacy or sales outlet be made immediately to the nearest NAFDAC office.

The government had earlier blacklisted 19 companies for exporting fake and counterfeit drugs into Nigeria.
