University of Albany Researcher to Use $1.43 Million Grant for Cancer Cell Studies

March 25, 2005

An assistant professor at the state University at Albany's Gen*NY*Sis Center for Excellence in Cancer Genomics has been awarded a $1.43 million research grant from the National Institutes of Health. Julio Aguirre-Ghiso's research will explore ways to delay or prevent the metastatic growth of cancer cells. They are the cells that end up killing half of cancer patients, sometimes months or years after tumors have been removed from patients' bodies.
