FDA Approves Hypoguard Product for Alternate Site Testing

April 1, 2005

Hypoguard, a manufacturer and marketer of blood glucose monitoring systems, announced that it recently received clearance from the FDA that will allow people using the Advance Micro-draw blood glucose system to use alternate site testing when checking their blood glucose level.

Hypoguard will offer patients the ability to draw blood samples from their palms, in addition to traditional fingertip tests. This technique gives patients a less painful way to measure their blood glucose levels.

People with diabetes typically monitor their blood glucose levels by obtaining a blood sample from their fingertips. Because the fingertip is highly concentrated with nerve endings, alternate site testing in the palm may be less painful.
