CMS Assigns New APC Code for OmniCorder's BioScanIR

April 1, 2005

OmniCorder Technologies announced that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has established a new technology Ambulatory Payment Classification (APC) for the company's BioScanIR System -- a medical imaging modality that provides a fast, noninvasive, radiation-free method for detecting and managing a wide variety of diseases that affect blood perfusion -- for U.S. Medicare patients in an outpatient hospital setting.

APC represents a unit of payment for Medicare hospital outpatient services. The new technology APC reimbursement rate covers the hospital or clinic's operating costs related to the service provided. It does not include the physician fee, which is covered by a separate CMS code.

The BioScanIR System's dynamic infrared blood perfusion imaging has been assigned APC Code 1502 and will be reimbursed at $75.00 per scan plus an allowable $15.00 co-pay effective April 1.
