US Pharmaceuticals Butt Heads With Egypt Over Generic Drugs

American pharmaceutical companies have called on Egyptian companies to stop manufacturing hundreds of generic versions of patented drugs, thereby blocking the World Trade Organization's (WTO) decision to let public health concerns override patents. The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA), the drug companies' mighty Washington lobby, recently sent a letter to former US trade representative Robert Zoellick on this issue.
