FDA Names New Associate Commissioner for Regulatory Affairs

The FDA has named Margaret Glavin to be the new associate commissioner for regulatory affairs, a position that oversees the agency's field staff that enforces FDA regulations.

Glavin, who previously served as the assistant commissioner in the Office of Counterterrorism Policy and Planning, will replace John Taylor III, who announced his resignation April 29.

Prior to joining the FDA, Glavin was acting administrator of the Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service. Immediately prior to joining the FDA in 2003, Glavin spent a year focusing on food-safety issues as a visiting scholar at Resources for the Future, a Washington, D.C., think tank.

Taylor spent 14 years at the agency. He joined the FDA's Office of the Chief Counsel in 1991 and has held various positions at the agency. Taylor was appointed to his current position in 2002.

Meanwhile, Boris Lushniak will replace Glavin as the FDA's assistant commissioner for counterterrorism policy. Lushniak previously served as the chief medical officer in the FDA's Office of Counterterrorism Policy and Planning.
