N.Y. to Receive $13 Million in Drug Settlement

May 25, 2005

New York state's share of an antitrust settlement involving Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. will top more than $13 million, Attorney General Eliot Spitzer said Tuesday. The manufacturer was accused in a federal lawsuit of anti-competitive practices by blocking cheaper alternative drugs to BuSpar and Taxol. Spitzer said the state will receive $9.8 million in the BuSpar case, and nearly $3.4 million in the Taxol case. BuSpar is a widely prescribed drug used to treat anxiety. Taxol is administered to patients suffering from breast, ovarian and other cancers.
