Pressure mounted yesterday for an independent register for doctors to declare their links with the pharmaceutical industry. Politicians said the relationship between the regulatory bodies, doctors and drug firms should be more transparent. The calls for a register followed a report by The Herald that highlighted the number of cases of children suffering life-threatening reactions after taking high doses of a steroid called fluticasone, used in the treatment of asthma.
