Heidelberg Engineering Adds OCT Product Line

Heidelberg Engineering purchased assets from Lubeck, Germany-based 4optics, adding optical coherence tomography (OCT) technology to its ophthalmic product offering.

Heidelberg will take over a portfolio of developed OCT products, including a non-contact pachymeter for measuring corneal thickness and an anterior chamber imaging device which provides cross-sectional images of the front of the eye. Key applications for these products are assessment of pre- and post-surgical LASIK, implantable contact lenses, glaucoma diagnostics and monitoring glaucoma treatments.

Heidelberg, a privately-held company, specializes in light-based diagnostics for ophthalmic applications. The company designs, manufactures and markets a variety of diagnostic instruments for application in retina, glaucoma and cornea diseases.
