PediaMed Enrolls First Patient in Trial for Gastrointestinal Dysfunction in Autistic Children

June 7, 2005

PediaMed - The Pediatrics Company has enrolled the first patient in a Phase II research study to evaluate an investigational medication for treatment of persistent gastrointestinal (GI) dysfunction in autistic children.

The study aims to determine the effect of the investigational medication on GI function through treatment, as well as assess the effect of GI symptoms on physical or emotional behavior. Twelve sites nationwide have been selected to participate in this medical study with patients currently in the screening process.

PediaMed estimated that up to half of children with autistic disorder experience regular GI problems.
