IL GETS FDA OK FOR NEW BLOOD TEST

June 23, 2005

Instrumentation Laboratory (IL) in Lexington, Mass., said the FDA gave clearance for a diagnostic test aimed at fast discovery of a condition known as venous thromboembolism. The FDA gave 510(k) approval for a blood test that can give results in less than five minutes and is meant to reduce the number of other, often more expensive diagnostic approaches, including computed tomography scans or exploratory surgery, by ruling out the condition. The test is called the HemosIL D-Dimer HS.
