AMGEN BOOSTING BOULDER OPERATIONS

Biotech giant Amgen has quietly poured $150 million into its Boulder manufacturing plant in the last two years, preparing it to become a launch site for new drugs it hopes to commercialize. Amgen is the world's largest biotech company, last year generating $10 billion in sales. It's well-known for its anemia and cancer-related drugs, some of which are made in Colorado. But it's also developing drugs that could help Amgen break into such areas as osteoporosis, bolstering the company's bottom line and its Boulder operations.
