Pfizer to Acquire Vicuron for $1.9 Billion

Pharmaceutical giant Pfizer will acquire Pennsylvania-based Vicuron Pharmaceuticals Inc. for $1.9 billion, the companies announced. The companies announced the merger agreement Wednesday, saying Pfizer would purchase outstanding Vicuron stock at $29.10 per share. "This transaction builds on Pfizer's extensive experience in anti-infectives," said Hank McKinnell, Pfizer chairman and CEO. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is reviewing two anti-infection drugs being developed by Vicuron.
