GLAXO IN AIDS VACCINE PACT

June 27, 2005

GlaxoSmithKline and the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative agreed to work together in an effort to develop an AIDS vaccine. In a press release, GlaxoSmithKline said the pact will facilitate early research and development of its nonhuman primate adenovirus vaccine vector as a component of an AIDS vaccine. IAVI and the U.K.-based drugmaker will collaborate to advance the development of technology that uses noninfectious vaccine vectors to stimulate specific immune responses directed against HIV, the virus that causes AIDS.
