MEDTRONIC RELEASES ENTRUST DEFIBRILLATORS IN U.S.

June 30, 2005

Medtronic has announced the U.S. introduction of its EnTrust family of implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs), designed to treat patients with abnormally fast and potentially life-threatening heartbeats that can lead to sudden cardiac arrest.

The EnTrust family offers ATP (anti-tachycardia pacing) During Charging, a feature that automatically uses pacing pulses to painlessly stop fast, dangerous heartbeats, while concurrently preparing to deliver a shock if needed, with no delay.

Additionally, the EnTrust dual-chamber ICD helps reduce inappropriate therapy by better identifying episodes of supraventricular tachycardia, which may ensure that patients receive appropriate shocks. It also incorporates a pacing mode called MVP (managed ventricular pacing), which promotes natural heart activity by significantly reducing unnecessary pacing in the heart's lower right chamber.
