RANIER SELECTS PTC TEMPLATE FOR SPINAL DISC IMPLANT

August 3, 2005

PTC, the Product Development Company, said that Ranier Technology, a Cambridge, UK-based device development company, is deploying PTC's Medical Device Template in conjunction with Windchill PDMLink and Windchill ProjectLink for product life cycle management.

Ranier selected the solutions to improve project management execution and manage design control and regulatory compliance of its CAdisc spinal disc replacement system. The CAdisc, designed to replace diseased spinal discs associated with debilitating back pain, is an elastomeric device that mimics and restores the physiological properties and biomechanics of the natural spinal disc.

A key success factor of the CAdisc system is Ranier Technology's ability to manage product data, facilitating design history documentation and certification of the new product for the U.S. market. It is essential to achieve the certification in its first attempt, Ranier said, as any delay would be costly and endanger project timelines.
