ELI LILLY TO BEGIN TRIALS FOR PULMONARY INSULIN AND EXANATIDE

August 10, 2005

Eli Lilly is to start Phase III clinical trials for pulmonary insulin by the end of 2005. The company is expecting physicians from across the country to participate in the clinical trials that will be conducted in India, as part of the global trials. The company's pulmonary insulin product is likely to be launched in 2009.

Eli Lilly has also obtained necessary approvals to carry out Phase III trials for Exanatide, an anti-diabetes molecule. Global trials will be initiated soon, the firm said. In addition, the company is working on two other products. One intended for blood sugar and weight loss control is expected to be launched by early 2007, and another, intended for diabetic retinopathy, is likely to be available in 2008.
