INION'S BIODEGRADABLE SPINAL IMPLANT GETS CE MARK

August 17, 2005

Biodegradable medical implant manufacturer Inion has received a CE mark for its Inion S-1 Anterior Cervical Fixation System designed for spinal applications.

The Inion S-1 is a biodegradable anterior cervical fusion plate for graft containment in fusions of the cervical vertebrae - the seven vertebrae located at the top of the spinal column. The advantage of biodegradable devices for spinal surgery is that they negate the need for further surgery to remove the implant, Inion said.

Inion S-1 is the first spinal product that Inion has introduced. The company plans a full-scale launch of the product in 2006 upon success of clinical postmarketing work that is scheduled to begin later this year.
