'DIPSTICK' TEST SHOWS MRSA RISK IN PATIENTS

August 22, 2005

Scottish scientists have developed a test that can predict whether a wound will become infected, making it possible to stop superbug infections before they begin. Researchers at drugs giant Johnson & Johnson's Edinburgh branch Ethicon have come up with a 'dipstick' test that looks for the early signs of bacterial infection. The technique measures the levels of biological molecules associated with an immune response by the body to bacteria in a wound.
