MENTOR LAUNCHES NEW INTERMITTENT CATHETER

August 25, 2005

Mentor has launched its new Self-Cath Hydrogel intermittent urinary catheter in the U.S. for the management of bladder control and urinary retention.

The catheter features a micro-bead lubricant coating that reduces urethral friction, while the introducer tip is designed to reduce the risk of urinary tract infections. Mentor said the hybrid design of the Self-Cath Hydrogel, combined with the additional benefits of contact free catheter usage and a telescoping extension sleeve, are intended to provide additional protection against cross contamination of the catheter, which can lead to infection.

Mentor plans to launch the product in international markets later in the month.
