HEART CENTER BOASTS NEW DEVICE

August 29, 2005

A cardiology group with a Council Bluffs presence is one of a few in the country to offer a new type of defibrillator. The Iowa Heart Center, with a local office at 1 Edmundson Place, suite No. 306, was the first in the nation to implant an EnTrust implantable cardioverter-defibrillator. The device, just approved by the FDA in June, can correct many dangerously fast heart rhythms without an electrical shock, said Matthew Flemming, M.D., an Iowa Heart electrophysiologist who spends Mondays in the Council Bluffs office. That capability represents a change from traditional defibrillators, Flemming said.
