MEDIMMUNE TO BUY DRUG COMPANY

Drug maker MedImmune Inc. said today it will buy Cellective Therapeutics Inc., a transaction that MedImmune predicts will reduce its 2005 earnings by 20 cents per share. With the purchase of the Gaithersburg-based Cellective, MedImmune picks up three potential drug candidates that could eventually be used to treat cancer and autoimmune diseases. The value of the deal, which is expected to close in October 2005, was not released although MedImmune said it was a cash transaction. MedImmune will make future payments to Cellective shareholders if certain development milestones are reached on the drug candidates.
