MALTA SET TO BECOME GENERIC PHARMACEUTICALS POWERHOUSE

Malta is set to become a European powerhouse for the production of generic pharmaceuticals thanks to an interpretation of the Bolar provision being implemented locally, the Financial Times reported yesterday. The Bolar provision, which governs intellectual property rights for research and patents in the highly competitive pharmaceutical industry, was first introduced by the United States and later by the European Union.
