ALTANA BUYS US DERMATOLOGY BUSINESS FROM GLAXOSMITHKLINE

September 30, 2005

Altana AG's US unit Altana Inc said it has acquired the prescription dermatology business from GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare for an undisclosed amount. PharmaDerm, a division of Altana Inc, will manufacture and market the former GlaxoSmithKline products Aclovate, a synthetic corticosteroid, Cutivate and Temovate, both anti-inflammatories, the antibiotic Emgel and Oxistat, an anti-fungal. Altana Inc chief executive Paul McGarty said the acquisition is a 'significant step... toward achieving our goal of becoming the leading pharmaceutical company specializing in dermatology.'
