DELPHI CREATES REMOTE DEVICE MONITORING SYSTEM

October 24, 2005

Delphi Medical Systems recently introduced a system that will allow medical companies to diagnose and repair devices remotely through a secure website. The new service is meant to provide quicker assistance to patients at less cost, the company says.

Delphi's "virtual technician" will monitor various devices, including dialysis machines, vital sign monitors, respiratory care devices and infusion pumps. Original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) can use their computers to continually monitor these devices' batteries, sensor outputs and recorded events. The service will identify hardware problems, generate service calls, and automatically ship spare parts to technicians. The system also will allow the companies to upgrade software or reboot the devices remotely.

"This 'virtual technician' service now provides OEMs a constant diagnostic tool, in addition to having the ability to significantly reduce service calls," Christophe Sevrain, the company's managing director said.
