George Boiardi was 22 when he died playing lacrosse for Cornell University in 2004.
His heart stopped from the blunt trauma of a hard rubber ball hitting him in
the chest—and he became another name on the growing list of sports-related
tragedies. Thomas Herrion, a promising 23-year-old rookie offensive lineman
for the San Francisco 49ers, collapsed and died after a practice in August.

on Oct. 15 after he had trouble breathing at his home.
