AMID BIG LOSSES, PROTEIN DESIGN LANDS $10M ROCHE DEAL

Protein Design Labs Inc. will get an upfront $10 million payment as part of an expanded agreement with partner Roche to develop a treatment for organ transplant patients. The company also posted a loss of $39.4 million for the July-September quarter, compared with a loss of $13.6 million in the same quarter last year. For the first nine months of 2005, Protein Design Labs posted a loss of $126.7 million, compared with a loss of $38.7 million for the equivalent period of 2004.
