SCHERING WANTS TO DIVEST CHEMICAL PRODUCTION OPS IN MEXICO BEFORE 2008

Schering AG said it wants to divest its chemical production activities in Orizaba, Mexico, before 2008, as part of its FOCUS restructuring program. The company will also review chemical production activities at its site in Bergkame, Germany. 'This review is expected to result in further restructuring and optimising of production processes at this site,' it said. 'We have to increase the efficiency and flexibility of our chemical production worldwide,' board member Karin Dorrepaal said, adding that the company aims to prevent closure of the Orizaba site that employs 250 people, and instead to find new owners who will continue operations.
