WEX PHARMA DISSIDENTS SEEK BOARD OUSTER; SHARES UP

Shares of Wex Pharmaceuticals Inc. (WXI.TO: Quote, Profile, Research) shot up more than 20 percent on Tuesday after dissident shareholders said they would seek to replace the board of the tiny drug company at a meeting in January. Wex, which is developing a painkiller using poison from the deadly blowfish, saw its share price jump 33 Canadian cents, or 22 percent, to C$1.84. The stock has lost about half its value since the beginning of the year.
