PAN PLEADS GUILTY, FACES MILLIONS IN FINES

November 28, 2005

Drug manufacturer Pan Pharmaceuticals is facing millions of dollars in fines after pleading guilty to 24 charges relating to defective medication. Several people suffered psychotic episodes, hallucinations and blackouts after taking the travel sickness drug Travacalm before it was recalled in early 2003. The manufacturing methods used by Pan resulted in some batches of Travacalm containing too much of an active ingredient, triggering adverse side effects.
