SCHERING CEO: DEAL WITH ALTANA MAKES NO SENSE

German drugmaker Schering (SCHG.DE: Quote, Profile, Research) is not contemplating an acquisition of the pharmaceuticals unit of rival Altana (ALTG.DE: Quote, Profile, Research), Schering Chief Executive Hubertus Erlen said. "It makes no sense," Erlen told reporters in remarks embargoed for Wednesday. He said Altana needed a partner that could help it overcome the patent expiry on its main drug pantoprazole, and with which it could find synergies.
