ADVANCED CIRCULATORY SYSTEMS' CPR DEVICE RECIEVES NEW AHA RATING

December 2, 2005

The American Heart Association (AHA) has given a cardiac resuscitation device made by Advanced Circulatory Systems (ACS) its second-highest rating, according to ACS.

The AHA Class IIa rating was given specifically to an impedance threshold device (ITD), the firm noted. But ACS's ResQPOD is the only ITD available in the US market, ACS said. The ResQPOD doubles the blood flow to the heart during conventional manual CPR, ACS said.

The Class IIa rating was contained in the association's recently released guidelines for CPR and emergency cardiac care. The ResQPOD is now more highly recommended by the AHA than any other device or drug used by emergency personnel for increasing circulation during CPR and improving resuscitation rates, the firm added.

The use of the ITD (ResQPOD) has been shown to improve circulation during CPR and increase the return of spontaneous circulation in cardiac arrest patients, according to AHA.

ResQPOD increases circulation by regulating airflow into the lungs during the chest wall recoil (or decompression) phase of CPR. The ResQPOD, introduced to the US market in 2004, is used as a circulatory enhancer by hospital and EMS personnel throughout the US and internationally and is distributed by Tri-anim Health Services.
