NEW HOPE FOR STROKE PATIENTS: A MEDICAL FIRST BENEFITS PATIENT AT ILLINOIS HOSPITAL

December 7, 2005

A promising new catheter-based device, NeuroFlo, designed to increase blood flow to the brain during a stroke, was recently used on a stroke victim for the first time as part of a Phase 3 clinical trial at Central DuPage Hospital (CDH). By the time a 51-year-old mother of three arrived at CDH, a regional stroke center in Chicago's western suburbs, nearly eight hours had passed since the onset of stroke symptoms, too late for usual FDA-approved therapies. Fortunately she was eligible for a new clinical trial available at the hospital.
